With only sand and water at his disposal, the artist skillfully molds intricate figures that loom above him as he crafts them. It’s hard to fathom that these realistic whimsical characters, scenes from the nativity, and terrifying beasts straight from Dante’s Inferno were fashioned out of mere grains of sand.
In 2008, Villafane was dared to try sand sculpting during a visit to Jesolo, Italy. Despite having no previous experience with the medium, he impressed onlookers with his incredible talent. Since then, he has been invited to work on various sand sculpture projects across the globe.
